Treasure hunting is amazing…the excitement of new discovery, even of old and well known facts, can’t compare to anything…at least for some. Finding new perspectives to old items is such an entertaining task! Finding the willingness in oneself to simply discover, without jaded views, a new facet to life around is probably one of the very few true learning experiences still done only for the sake of curiosity.
Today there will be historical homes to track down and explore. This unusual task has prompted the old researcher in me…Funny what one can find if they look further than the tip of their nose to what’s in front of them…So much unsaid within the walls of the old buildings I pass by every day on my way to work. So many words and warnings other have said, unrecorded, bound to make us repeat history… Unless…the wake up call can be heard by more than just half of ear….

Looking at these pictures I am reminded of places just like them that I have seen and even lived in for a short period which are gone now because someone thought they could be replaced with something newer, something better. But newer is not always better.
wiping out history to create modern architecture… yes.. it does happen a lot, in every generation. Too bad!
have a sunny day!
Wonderful pictures. The architecture of the old house and interior is so familiar – some still survive. The care and upkeep of these old houses is really costly – plus the expense of rewiring and bringing it all up to building codes – but such a treasure once it’s done! (and the maintenance battle is continuous). Nothing like the style and elegance of the last picture – great place to de-stress.
It was a great adventure…some homes are simply amazing, but it takes a brave person to walk those stairs…so steep…I wonder how they managed up and down in those long skirts…
Wonderful!
Something you might enjoy is geocaching (geocaching.com)
They give latitude/longitude gps coordinates for spots. Some of them are virtual, and you can find some neat historical locations.
I recently found one where George Washington’s troops dug fortifications in my neighborhood.
I used to do this with my child back in GA…it was big fun!
